How to choose clothes for a newborn? What clothes does a newborn need? Clothes before birth

Almost every woman, immediately after confirming the fact of pregnancy, goes to a children's store. No, not to buy everything you need, but just ... ask the price, look and imagine your future child. Get into the role. However, the closer the date of the birth of the baby, the more acute the question arises: what clothes to buy for the baby?

Take a size up

The average height of a newborn is 52 cm. However, this does not mean that all clothes for newborns should be this size. Firstly, the size range from the number - 56. Secondly, your baby may be larger. Thirdly, the suits should not sit “close” on the child: there should be two to three centimeters of free space between his body and clothes. Finally, children grow very quickly, and within the first month, the baby can add 4-6 cm. Therefore, it is best to choose a size of 62 cm.

Some manufacturers indicate on the labels as the size not the height of the child, but his age. For example, "intended for children 3-6 months." All kids are different (boys grow faster than girls), so it’s better to check with the seller what height this or that suit is designed for.

Dimensional grid of children's clothing from 0 to 5 years

Age Height Size
0-1.5 months 50-56 cm size 56
1.5-3 months 56-62 cm size 62
3-6 months 62-68 cm size 68
6-9 months 68-74 cm size 74
9-12 months 74-80 cm size 80
1-1.5 years 80-86 cm size 86
1.5-2 years 86-92 cm size 92
2 years 92-98 cm size 98
3 years 98-104 cm size 104
4 years 104-110 cm size 110
5 years 110-116 cm size 116

From natural fabrics

Of course, clothes for newborns should be made only from natural fabrics. In principle, most often cotton is used for its production, only the density of the canvas is different. So, the thinnest is the culinary surface and interlock. From them sew underwear, pajamas and undershirts. A denser fabric (flannel, terry, footer, velor) is used to make thick caps, overalls, and sliders.

However, you should not get hung up on naturalness either. The main thing is that the inner layer of the child's clothing, which is in contact with his delicate skin, be soft and hypoallergenic. On top of this, you can wear, for example, a fleece suit.

Less details

Ribbons, ruffles, bows and other decorative elements are not safe for a child. While moving, they can choke him.

Avoid clothing that is worn over the head. The child's cervical vertebrae are still very fragile. Buttons on the side or on the shoulder would be ideal.

All seams in clothing that is adjacent to the body of the baby should be on the outside. Otherwise, they should be soft and sewn with 100% cotton threads.

What to take?

Before you go shopping, decide for yourself whether you will be swaddling your baby and whether you intend to constantly use diapers. If you swaddle your baby tightly and refuse disposable diapers, then for the first three months you will need mainly diapers, undershirts and sliders. A lot. The first months the baby goes to the toilet every hour or more often. And after each such trip, he will most likely have to change a complete set of clothes. So stock up on the following set: at least 20 undershirts, 20 sliders, 20 thin diapers, 20 thick diapers and a few bonnets.

If you plan to walk in diapers and occasionally swaddle (for example, to sleep), then you will need:

2-3 thin caps and 2-3 thick ones (classic caps, by the way, are uncomfortable: they expose the ears and slide over the eyes, which irritates the child);

Cotton overalls with buttons - 5-7 pieces (depending on your love for washing);

Mittens-scratches - 2 pairs;

Body with short and long sleeves - 3 pieces each;

Warm socks - 1 pair;

Cotton socks - 2 pairs;

2 warm suits.

As for the sliders and vests, the button-down suits are much more convenient. Nothing lifts up and the back of the child is always closed. Buying vests and sliders is, rather, a tribute to traditions. But in fact they gather dust in the corner of the closet. It is better to switch to sliders and vests closer to six months, when the child will crawl around the house. And in the first three months it is better to give preference to more comfortable clothes.

The same goes for diapers. Of course, you still need to buy five pieces. You can loosely swaddle the baby when he cannot calm down (some doctors believe that loose swaddling recreates in the mind of the crumbs the state when he was in the womb, and the uterus gently hugged him). Also, a diaper can be laid on a sofa or other “non-childish place” where the mother puts the baby. Plus, they are needed for examinations in clinics. But you definitely won't need a lot of diapers. Buy an extra suit.

Don't take too much

Don't buy everything you like in the store. Believe me, you do not need a mountain of clothes. If you use disposable diapers, then you will need one or two suits per day (newborn clothes should be changed every day).

All sorts of "adult" clothing (jeans, dresses, sweaters) is also a waste of money. At home, you are unlikely to dress up the baby in a weekend suit, and there is practically nowhere to walk with such a crumb in the first three months. So leave these acquisitions for a later period. Often such outfits are uncomfortable for the baby. And for going to the clinic or visiting, it is better to choose a beautiful soft overalls.

And do not forget: a bunch of clothes will definitely be presented to you. Grandparents, aunts and nephews will not be able to pass by children's stores. Therefore, if you do not want unpleasant surprises, tell in advance what you need to buy.

And remember, a newborn baby doesn't care what he looks like. He should be warm and comfortable. Everything else is mom's whims.

Buying baby clothes, parents should not only be guided by their own taste, but also adhere to certain rules. Let's find out how to choose wisely clothes for newborn to buy only the necessary, high-quality and suitable things for the baby.

General selection rules
  • Do not buy a lot of little things of the same size for the crumbs. A child under one year old grows quickly, so some things may simply not be useful.
  • Pay attention that there are no unnecessary details on the clothes: rivets, frills, ruffles, bows, pockets. All this is useless to a newborn and can only interfere. Also, do not buy things with fasteners or buttons on the back - the baby will be uncomfortable, because he spends most of the time lying on his back.
  • Clothes for a newborn should be sufficiently free and not restrict movement.
  • Choose products only from natural fabrics: cotton, cashmere, linen, wool. Such things pass moisture well, and the baby's skin will breathe. Really high quality baby clothes does not emit any unpleasant odors, does not fade, does not lose its good appearance after washing.
  • Take a close look at the quality of the clothes: are the stitches even, are the buttons sewn on correctly, etc.
  • Do not buy things in bright colors for a baby up to a year old, because it harms his psyche and vision. It is better to choose clothes in calm pastel colors: delicate pink, pistachio, sand, blue, white.
  • Before putting on new clothes, wash them with baby powder, dry and iron.
What's in a newborn's wardrobe?

So, let's decide what minimum things should be bought for the crumbs. Clothes for a newborn are, as a rule:

  • 2-3 light vests or blouses (and 1-2 warmer ones);
  • a couple of sliders (if you plan to use gauze diapers, and not diapers, then you may need more sliders);
  • disposable diapers, 2 pairs of socks and 2 caps (light and warmer);
  • warm mittens and light scratch mittens that do not allow the baby to scratch himself with his nails;
  • a blanket or an envelope for walking.

Most of these things can not be purchased separately, but as part of special kits for newborns.

How to choose undershirts for a newborn

According to pediatricians, tight swaddling is harmful to the health of the baby. Therefore, most mothers prefer baby undershirts. Such clothes for a newborn do not hinder his movements, and the little man sleeps comfortably, plays and explores the outside world.

When buying undershirts, make sure that the seams are on the outside. The product should not be too expensive. The main thing is its hypoallergenicity, softness, naturalness and environmental friendliness. It is advisable to prefer a light cotton fabric, such as calico, flannel or chintz. The undershirts of excellent quality are also made from light cambric, reminiscent of silk. However, unlike the latter, cambric is denser, so it is not afraid of frequent washing.

The cut of the product is also important. Remember that baby's undershirt should not be worn over the head. Models with Velcro and ties are very convenient, which allow mothers to quickly dress their babies. However, as you already know, a large number of unnecessary details creates inconvenience for the baby. Everything should be in moderation.

Today, bodysuits are in great demand - undershirts connected with panties. They come in short and long sleeves. Products with long sleeves are usually made with closed handles, which protects the baby from scratching.

How to choose a romper for a newborn

Some parents wonder which is better: sliders or diapers? As we already know, tight swaddling harms the baby. Therefore, it is desirable to stop the selection on the sliders.

For a newborn, choose models with closed feet. The legs will be warm, and you will not have to wear socks on the child, which can periodically fall off. It is better to buy sliders with open legs for babies from 3 months old, when more intensive growth of the child begins. You can choose from a baby romper with a narrow or wide elastic band. The main thing is that it should be free enough: it does not sting and does not allow the panties to slip.

There are also styles with straps that prevent the blouse from crawling out. But rompers in the form of overalls are good because they warm the back and chest of the baby and do not slip.

The material from which the sliders are made must pass air well and absorb moisture. The fabric should be gentle and hypoallergenic, as it is in direct contact with the skin of the crumbs. Pediatricians recommend purchasing products made of thin cotton (velor, terry, cool).

Choosing a blanket and an envelope

Newly minted parents are also faced with a difficult dilemma: a blanket or an envelope? Both options have advantages and disadvantages. Let's consider them in more detail.
You can choose a blanket for a newborn without much effort: insulated for the cold season, lighter for the warm season. There are blankets-plaids (demi-seasonal) - both warm and light, so they are perfect for spring and autumn. The advantage of the blanket is that it can be used for a long time for a crib or stroller while walking.

choose blanket for newborn from baize, fleece, wool, filled with goat or camel down. However, remember that products made of wool and down can cause an allergic reaction in the baby. As for synthetics, give preference to modern holofiber filler. It is hypoallergenic and retains heat well.

The disadvantage of the blanket is that an inexperienced mother may need a lot of time to wrap the baby.

A baby envelope, on the contrary, in this sense it has a clear advantage. After all, you can quickly wrap the baby in it, without even knowing the basics of swaddling. Models with a zipper make it possible to well close the baby from the wind and make his stay in the envelope as comfortable as possible. There is also a transforming envelope that can easily be turned into a blanket and used for a crib or stroller.

A clear disadvantage of the envelope for a newborn is its short-term use. Since the baby is growing rapidly, and in any case, buying a blanket is indispensable.

There is a part, happiness is here, happiness is nearby! The birth of a child is a huge joyful event in the life of every family. Probably, every mommy remembers this wonderful time, when there is very little left before meeting with the baby. This feeling is right there.

Shopping trips to choose clothes, diapers, a crib, a stroller. For me, this moment was perfect. So much beauty is produced in our time for crumbs that the head is spinning. I want to buy everything. But, moms, tell yourself "stop"! It's better to go for things for the newborn with a prepared list so as not to overfill. As it was in my case. Many of the items I bought were never even worn. And some things were just not comfortable to wear.

On the recommendation of a seller from a children's store, I purchased undershirts that turned out to be unnecessary for me. The seller said that they are allegedly more convenient to put on a newborn. I bought 7 pieces in different sizes. But since the material was dense and not stretchy, it was very difficult to slip a tiny pen into a small sleeve.

On the advice of a friend, I took a slip for a newborn, very tiny, which turned out to be small for us right away. And the suit for discharge took a very large size. Arriving home, I saw that the size was for a 3-month-old child. A lot of other things were bought in advance: various bodysuits, bonnets, hats, booties, etc. Why am I saying this? Moms, do not buy too many clothes for the baby, especially for growth. First think: will the newborn be comfortable in this thing. Now is not a scarce time when it was hard to get clothes for a child. At any time you can buy everything you need. If you can not go shopping, then the online store will help you. For example, on the site you can order all the necessary things for a baby, and delivery takes place by courier at a convenient time for you.

Looking at the outfits every time, I imagined how I would dress the baby. It brought me so much happiness and joy. Several times I shifted the packages that I collected for the maternity hospital. I thought about what to wear immediately after birth.

And so I first became a mother, and now this time is remembered with a smile. They brought me a child. Here she is, my girl, my Varenka. How much happiness! After all, she was so long-awaited.

At that time, I never wore diapers, undershirts, sliders. She looked at all the attire with horror and fear: how could such a tiny baby wear them, even her hands were shaking. It’s good that an experienced mother of five children was lying with me in the ward, she put a diaper and a suit on Varya in no time. Showed and explained to me how to do it. Only after giving birth to a baby, I realized what things are convenient for a newborn to wear and how to choose really necessary and high-quality things.

Many superstitious mothers do not buy things for the baby in advance. But still, a minimum set of cosmetics and clothes for the baby should be prepared. Basically, shopping for a baby begins with clothes. To us personally useful:

Overalls, 4 pieces. It was the most comfortable clothing;

Thin caps, 2 pcs.

Thick caps, 1 pc.,

Fleece overalls (can be velor), 1 pc. for cool weather;

Thin diapers, 4 pcs.

The most relevant and useful information for modern parents is in our mailing list.
We already have over 30,000 subscribers!

Flannelette diapers, 4 pcs. (I swaddled my daughter. We didn’t sleep well without swaddling. I woke myself up with my hands);

socks;

Scratches.

If the date of birth falls on the cold season, then the list will need to be supplemented with warm clothes.

Someone will add bodysuits and sliders to this list, someone’s undershirts are comfortable, and someone can’t imagine a baby’s wardrobe without a sandbox. Buy 1-2 pieces of each item, and you will immediately find out whether this piece of clothing was created for your baby or it is better to put it away. Listen to your feelings, and not to the opinion of friends or sellers in the store.

When choosing things for the baby, follow these rules:

No synthetics. Only 100% natural materials.

Clothing should be pleasant to the touch.

Manufacturers are verified and certified.

The seams are soft, the threads are thin.

The colors are not bright, delicate, pastel colors.

The patterns are loose and simple. The less ruffles, rivets, rhinestones on clothes, the better.

And you make a list of things that will be convenient for you. May every purchased item bring you great pleasure.

What should be winter clothes for babies? How not to turn long walks into torment for the baby? What to pay attention to? Let's figure it out together.

Choose a model

Envelope

It doesn't take much effort to put your baby in an envelope. Put it on a horizontal surface - unfastened (zipper or buttons) - placed the child - fastened. It will not blow in the envelope, it will not twitch, since the baby in it is completely - except for the face - closed. However, this same fact greatly limits the possibility of his movements.

The disadvantages of the envelopes include the impracticality of the purchase - just as winter clothes, and not as a substitute for a blanket, they can rarely be used for more than one season. Transforming envelopes can be used longer, up to 1.5-2 years of the child, transforming from a warm sleeping bag into a full-fledged overalls. An intermediate option is an envelope with handles. An excellent option for those who do not walk yet, but no longer tolerate restrictions in their movements.

Overalls

Unlike envelopes, the overalls do not hinder the movements of the baby. For the same reason, dressing a baby in it is a little more difficult, especially when he is not in the mood. However, with the quest “hit the right leg, and then into the sleeve”, any mother will learn to cope after a couple of “training sessions”. For those children who do not walk yet, but only lie-sit in a stroller, overalls can have turn-down booties and mittens. For those who have already tried on shoes, in order to prevent the trouser leg from riding up, it is convenient if the model has hairpins (gum-holders).

Overalls are considered slightly warmer than a separate set with an equal amount of insulation. The reason is that there is no connection between the upper and lower parts, which means that warm air moves freely inside.

Separate kit

The main difference between the sets of jackets and pants from overalls, as you might guess, is that they are, in fact, separate. So the process of "dressing" can be slightly delayed. Yes, and there is a possibility, for example, that while taking “snow baths” or mastering cross-country crawling skills in such a winter suit, the baby is more likely to get wet or freeze if the jacket is pulled up.

On the other hand, some mothers note that separate sets are more convenient if you need to go with your child, for example, to the store. So that the baby is not hot, you can easily take off the jacket from him.

Choosing a heater

Natural heaters

Feather.

It is better to choose clothes with such insulation for newborns or as an additional set. Down always goes in combination with a feather, and its ratio is important. Ideal for thermal protection of the child is the presence of 80% down and 20% feather in the product. For the winter, it is better to choose clothes on eiderdown and goose feathers.

Insulation benefits:

  • easy;
  • breathing;
  • well restores shape after mechanical compression;
  • very warm, often does not require any underwear other than a cotton T-shirt (up to -25 C).

Cons of insulation:

  • can cause allergies
  • often the feather comes out through the outer fabric and lining;
  • cannot be washed or can, but very rarely and with special means;
  • absorbs moisture well and dries for a long time;
  • down clothes are quite voluminous, it is uncomfortable to walk in it;
  • during wet weather, a greenhouse effect may occur and the child will overheat

Sheepskin (sheep wool).

A popular insulation from the time of our grandmothers. Warms well, but quite heavy. It is more often used in the manufacture of children's envelopes and overalls for children under 1 year old. There are options for winter sets with a removable "liner" made of sheep's wool.

Insulation benefits:

  • practically does not cause allergies (with good processing);
  • wear-resistant;
  • durable;
  • keeps heat well (up to -25 C).

Cons of insulation:

  • requires special care (usually dry cleaning),
  • heavy,
  • absorbs moisture, dries for a long time, deforms.

Artificial insulation

As a rule, on the tag of a product with artificial insulation, 100% polyester will be written. However, they may have a variety of trade names. The "oldest" and well-known synthetic insulation is synthetic winterizer. However, now it is considered not entirely environmentally friendly, heavy, and also “cold” - it “warms” at temperatures not lower than -10 C. It is used, as a rule, in cheap “no-name” products.

Among the modern trade names of artificial heaters are trustworthy:

  • holofiber;
  • isosoft;
  • thinsulate;
  • holophile;
  • polar guard;
  • thermofab;
  • holofan;
  • topsfil

Their advantages:

  • retain heat well (some types - up to -40 C);
  • lungs;
  • hypoallergenic;
  • unpretentious in care

Their cons:

  • unnatural fabrics.

When choosing outerwear for a baby with artificial insulation, you should pay attention to its density or how many grams a square meter of insulation will weigh. This information may be indicated on the tag, posted on the manufacturer's website or known to the seller. It allows you to navigate in the approximate temperature mode of wearing clothes.

  • 80-100 g/m2 - up to -5 C;
  • 100-140 g/m2 - from +5 C to -10 C;
  • 140-200 g/m2 - from -5 C to -20 C;
  • 200-400 g/m2 - from -10 C to -30 C.

At the same time, there is always more insulation in jackets than in the pants that come with them.

Is a membrane needed?

The membrane is not a heater. This is a special synthetic thin film that is attached to the surface of the fabric, or a special impregnation. The membrane is widely used in the manufacture of children's winter clothing. As a rule, manufacturers have such models marked tec or tex. However, it makes sense to buy such products when the child is already actively moving, that is, walking and running.

It perfectly protects from wind and moisture, preventing the child's body from sweating and overcooling, since cold air from the outside does not penetrate inside, and overheated and moist from the inside is brought out through the special pores of the material. But if the baby lies or sits in a stroller and does not move, dressed in membrane overalls, he may be cold.

However, some manufacturers use membrane fabrics in combination with modern synthetic insulation. Such products are quite suitable for wearing in winter by infants.

What else to pay attention to?

For water resistance and breathability

In addition to the aesthetic beauty of the outer material, its ability to not get wet and pass steam is important for the comfort of the baby and the calmness of the mother.

How well this or that clothing copes with moisture can be judged by the indicators of water resistance / water resistance (Waterproof) sometimes available on product tags. They are determined by the height of the water column in millimeters, the pressure of which the material can withstand for 24 hours without getting wet.

For reference:

  • 1000-1500 mm - an unremarkable raincoat fabric that does not have special water resistance properties or special processing. As a rule, it is not indicated on the tags. And if this is worth it, then this is just a marketing ploy;
  • 1500-3000 mm - a fabric with a slight impregnation that can withstand a walk under frost or snow, but gets wet when wallowing in snowdrifts;
  • 3000-5000 mm - according to accepted standards, starting from these numbers, they talk about water resistance. A child in clothes made of such fabric can safely storm snow barriers and still unfrozen puddles;
  • 5000-10000 mm and above - a high degree of protection against water.

Vapor or air permeability (VTR), that is, the ability of a fabric to pass vapor through itself to the outside for a certain period of time, is measured in grams / m2 / day. The "report" begins with approximately 1000 grams / m2 / day. A good level - from 5000 grams / m2 / day. The higher the indicator, the better, but not for infants lying or sitting in a stroller. For them, 1000-1500 grams / m2 / day will be optimal, provided that there is a large amount of insulation in the clothes.

Perhaps the most “reliable” in terms of protection from water and wind, as well as steam passage, are membrane fabrics, which were discussed above. But not only. For example, Teflon® coated fabrics. They, in the strict sense of the word, are not membrane, but they have excellent moisture and dirt resistance.

For wear resistance

Relevant for winter clothes for those children who are starting to walk or have already mastered this skill. They have the most vulnerable places for abrasion and holes - knees and buttocks. Better if they are reinforced. Or the bottom of the set / overalls is sewn from a denser material. For example, from kondura (Cordura). It is a thick PU coated nylon fabric. Very durable and water repellent. Products with the already mentioned Teflon impregnation also boast of increased wear resistance.

For fasteners

They should be comfortable, durable and few in number. According to many mothers, the combination of zippers with buttons is ideal for babies.

On the product lining

If it is cotton, then it should have a slight allowance and sag, in case of possible shrinkage during washing. It is also desirable that in those places where the child's skin can come into contact with clothing - collar, cuffs - the material should be soft, not causing irritation or rubbing. Cotton is better. Also a good option is soft polyester.

For the absence / presence of decorative elements

Excessive decor can cause not only inconvenience when dressing / undressing the baby, but also be dangerous. For example, a toddler may take one of its elements into their mouth and choke.

Collecting a dowry, every expectant mother is sure to be puzzled by the question - to what clothes to buy for the baby for the first time. I will say right away that the list of clothes for newborns turns out to be pretty decent)
In this article, I decided to collect all my experience on this topic and I hope it will be useful to you.
So let's go)

Most often, the size of children's clothing on the tag corresponds to child's growth.
The smallest size is the 50th, followed by an increase of 6 cm (56, 62, 68, etc.).

If you buy clothes from Europe, you can see the following designations on the tags:
0-3 months or 0/3(which corresponds to size 56)
3-6 months or 3/6(this is 62-68 size), etc.

On children's clothes of domestic manufacturers, the following sizes can be indicated:
18-20 (size 56)
20 (size 62)
22 (size 68), etc.

Usually, babies are born with a foot length of 6-8 cm. The tags with socks most often contain numbers corresponding to the length of the baby's foot, but you can also find such designations: 0+, 0-3, 3-6.
For newborns, it is better to choose size 0+ (it is approximately 8 cm), but you can take socks for growth - 0-3 (about 10-12 cm).

List of clothes for newborns for the first time

1. Set for discharge

If you want, buy a smart envelope (or blanket), but keep in mind that after discharge, most likely, it will only take up space in your closet. But you can buy something that will come in handy for walks later.
Alice was born in August, it was warm, but not very hot anymore. I bought this set in Daughters & Sons , consisting of a fleece envelope-pouch, a fleece blouse, a hat, an undershirt and sliders.

I only bought a cotton cap for him (under a fleece cap).
The purchase was extremely successful. In this set, we checked out and then walked for almost 2 months. Also, it came in handy later for Faya, who was born in winter, but, of course, we put on this set as an undergarment.

There is also such a modern version of an extract for summer-spring - a beautiful plaid or a thin knitted blanket (now you can even buy an exclusive handmade one). A knitted blanket or blanket will definitely come in handy even after discharge (for example, to cover a child in a stroller or in a car).

Faya was born in December. We bought her a size 62 Finnish Kerry envelope. We checked out in it, and we walked in it all winter and until the end of March, because. The envelope is oversized by about 6 cm.
Insulation in an envelope 250 gr. Designed for temperatures from +5 to -25.
We walked in this envelope at -15 with fleece overalls and did not freeze. They also dressed him in positive temperatures and never sweated. Lining 100% cotton (velor). There are slots for a car seat.
A very convenient envelope - they put the child in, fastened 2 zippers and that's it) Finnish winter clothes are ideal for kids!
New models of Finnish envelopes for newborns can be viewed

Option for an extract for a warm spring, summer: underwear cotton set (vest, sliders or, instead, a cotton slip), a diaper, a bonnet, a thin cap, a thin plaid (a knitted blanket or a light envelope).

Release option for autumn, winter: underwear cotton set (vest, sliders or, instead, cotton slip), fleece overalls, diaper, cap, warm hat, envelope (or blanket).

2. Outerwear for walking

In summer / spring - overalls 62 size.
For summer - from thin velor, for spring - from fleece with a lining (insulation).
The ideal option is with two zippers along the entire length for the convenience of dressing the baby and turn-ups on the arms and legs.

In winter/autumn - warm winter/autumn overalls or envelope size 62.

3. Beanie

If summer, then the thinnest hat, for spring-autumn - dense knitted, for winter - warm.
It is better to take hats for newborns with ties so that they are well fixed on the head and do not move out.
For the first time, one or two hats will suffice. If the baby is born in the height of summer and it is hot, then you will generally walk in one cap, a knitted hat will be needed only in case of wind or cold snap.
In winter, it is better to have two hats. For example, we had one thin knitted hat for the weather down to -5, taking into account the fact that there was also a hood on top. And another warm one with a dense fleece lining for frost.

4. Bonnet

For the summer - thin cotton bonnets, spring-autumn-winter - from thick knitwear.
It is better to take 2 sizes at once, for example, buy 2 caps in size 35 and 3 caps in size 40.
We wore a cap for about three months in such cases:

  • immediately after swimming (but then, after about an hour, we took it off and slept without it, because it was always warm at home)
  • for a walk (in summer - only a cap, in autumn and winter - under a cap).

5. Diaper

I didn't swaddle Alice or Faya. Diapers used in such cases:
- on a changing mat
- sometimes, laying in a crib instead of a sheet
- the first time was laid in a sun lounger
- took to the clinic
- one diaper hung in the bathroom for a clean wet ass)

For these purposes, 10 diapers were more than enough for us. Thin diapers are usually used, but you can buy a pair of flannel ones. If you plan to swaddle, then, of course, you need to buy more diapers.

6. Anti-scratch mittens- 3 pairs. Choose with a wide elastic band, these hold better.

7. Thin socks– 4 pairs (2 pairs small + 2 large)

8. Warm socks(fleece or terry) - 1 pair

9. Socks-booties - Two pairs. They fix the baby's leg very well and do not fly off, unlike ordinary socks. Plus, they look great on little feet!

10. Body with long sleeves with buttons along the entire length- 3 pcs. (2 pcs. 62 size + 2 pcs. 68 size). If you see bodysuits in size 62 with closable handles, take them, then you won’t have to use anti-scratches. If necessary, the "handles" can be unscrewed.

But such bodysuits (without buttons along the entire length) are very inconvenient to wear on newborns. These bodysuits will come in handy for babies when they start to sit up (at about 6 months). they can only be worn over the head.

11. Rompers with a wide elastic band- 5 pieces. (2 pcs. 62 size + 3 pcs. 68 size).

12. Pants (sliders without legs)- 4 things. 68 size. It is also better to take with a wide elastic band.

13. Slips (overalls with buttons along the entire length)- 5 pieces. (2 pcs. 56 size, 2 pcs. 62 size, 2 pcs. 68 size)

14. Sleeping envelope with buttons- 1 PC. (62 size).

In my experience - the most comfortable clothes for babies up to 3 months - slip. The slip replaces the vest and sliders.
In second place - bodysuit (if hot) + socks or bodysuit + sliders (panties) - if it's cold.
sleeping bag the first month is very convenient, naturally, only for sleep. It is convenient because at night it can be easily and quickly unfastened and fastened (to change a diaper).

The tandem of undershirts + sliders is very inconvenient in the sense that the undershirts constantly leave the sliders and you have to refuel them. We wore undershirts, God forbid, a couple of times to make sure that they lose to slips and bodysuits in everything. Also, a constantly moving undershirt and an elastic band from sliders can injure a navel that has not yet healed.

I can assure you that if you buy enough slips and bodysuits, you simply won't need undershirts.

1. If the child is expected to be large, buy clothes starting from size 62.

Is it possible to determine the size of children's clothing in advance? Some babies are born small, weighing less than 3 kg. and a height of 47-50 cm, while others are very large - more than 4 kg. and height 54 cm.
It is possible to determine for sure what size of clothes will suit your baby only after his birth.
But still, even at the stage of pregnancy, the growth of the child can be monitored by ultrasound. A competent doctor will always tell you if the child is large or, conversely, very small in terms of parameters.
I was told on ultrasound with both daughters that they would be small and, most likely, would be born within 3 kg.
The doctors were right - Alice was born 2850 kg. with a height of 50 cm, Faya - 3050 kg. and height 49 cm.
I bought a lot of clothes in size 56, but we only had enough for the first month and a half, then everything became small. Moreover, at the same time we wore some clothes and 62 sizes, and she was already just right for us.

2. If you plan to buy clothes in size 56, then take them to a minimum, because if you buy a lot, you run the risk of not vilifying even half - clothes of this size become small very quickly.

3. When buying clothes, consider the season (winter, spring, summer or autumn), as well as the air temperature in the apartment. If it’s cool at home, then buy bodysuits and slips with long sleeves and give preference to clothes made of a denser material.

4. Clothes should be enough- not a lot (because the child grows very quickly in the first months), but not a little. Usually, newborns do not get dirty, but I had a problem with both daughters for the first 3 months - therefore, it happened that during the day I had to change clothes, and even more than once.

5. Overalls (slips) usually come in size, and it is better to buy bodysuits for a size, or even two more. I bought several bodysuits in size 56, and we just didn’t have time to wear them, less than a month later, they were already small for us. But the size 62 bodysuits were just right. And all because the length of the body "eats" the diaper.

6. If you plan to buy / order several types of clothing of any brand, first read the reviews about the brand and the manufacturer so as not to make a mistake with the size. Not all clothing brands come in size, some brands are oversized, while others, on the contrary, are small.
